How the spotted kiwi lost its wings

One day there was a kiwi that slept in the day and in the night it hunted for worms and insects.

This kiwi had a wonderful family. He had two other  and a mum and dad. They were all brown spotted kiwis.

The next night the kiwi  went out for a worm hunt and saw one little juicy worm in a really open area, and then two ferrets arrived and the kiwi saw them and ran and ran and ran until he ran out  of energy and the kiwi caught up to him and bit his wings off. After that his spotted family came and scared both of the ferrets away and the kiwi was not happy at  all.

That is how the kiwi lots its wings and he never went out hunting for worms and insect without his family ever again

Tanemahuta talked and talked about how is children were being eaten and told them to come down. He asked tui tui said he didnt like the dark so said no.

The next day Tanehokahoka asked Pukeko will you come down to the forest floor Pukeko saw the cold damp earth and said its to damp i dont want to get my feet wet sorry but no.

Then he turned to kiwi the last of them will you come down from the forest roof. Kiwi looked up at the trees then looked around and saw his family and said yol i will.

And now today the kiwi is one of the best birds in the whole world

Tanemahuta was walking through the forest and noticed his children, the trees dying. Bugs were eating them. He called to his brother Tanehokahoka to help him. Tanehokahoka called down his children, the bird.

Tanemahuta talked to the birds.

He told them about his children dying. He asked if anyone would volunteer to come down to the forest floor to save the trees.

No bird spoke.

Tanehokahoka asked Tui.

Tui said "no way hozay. I am too scared of the ground and the dark, it creeps me out"

Tanehokahoka asked pukeko.

Pukeko didn't agree he said "what! No way hozay, it is way to wet down here.

Tanehokahoka turned to pipiwharauroa.

Pipiwharauroa said "never ever, I am in the middle of building my nest.

Tanehokahoka turned to kiwi their last hope. Kiwi said "I shall"

Everyone was overjoyed. But Tanemahuta felt he should warn kiwi of the dangers. Tanemahuta said "kiwi do you still agree." Kiwi simply said "I shall"

All the other birds were punished. The kiwi was rewarded with being the most well known bird in New Zealand
